Soho House

This was the home of Birmingham industrialist and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton for 43 years until his death in 1809. Boulton worked with architects James and Samuel Wyatt and furniture maker James Newton to create a fashionable and comfortable home. It had an early form of central heating, as well as a steam bath and flushing toilets.

Soho was the favourite meeting place of some of the greatest minds of the 18th century. Members of the Lunar Society that met there included Erasmus Darwin, James Watt, Josiah Wedgwood and Joseph Priestly.
